Hello 2014

Resolutions have never really been our thing.  We’ve tried, but we never really resolve to do what we want, which is sit on the sofa every night with a glass of wine and a butload of awesome tv shows to watch.

And this year we’re not even supposed to have Resolutions anymore, we’re supposed to have Goals.  SMART Goals.  Yeah right, “my goal is to watch tv four out of five nights…”

But we all want to be “better” people.  Thinner, faster, better read, eat only local, grown our own, yell less, love more.  So, when I came across this article at lifehacker, I had to forward it to Ryan,

“Does this sort of thing appeal to you?  Seven 52 Week Challenges for a More Productive Year

They’re the usual list of things, save more money, clean your house, get more fit, etc; but the once a week challenge is alluring.  It seems simple, easy.  I can find some time once a week to do something.  Ryan said he was interested, but we had to figure out what we wanted to do.

Fitness was out, Ryan is already training for a century ride in May and I’ve been chasing the skinny girl on the treadmill for two and a half years.  While I haven’t caught her yet, the fitness habit is pretty ingrained now.

Ryan wanted to do a once a week video thing, but that’s really his thing, not mine.  I want to take more pictures of our daily lives because I’m crap at journaling and this stuff needs to be remembered, but that’s really my thing, not his.

If only there was a way to document our daily lives, somehow incorporate video and stills, and is approachable, manageable, in the context of our day.   If only there were someplace we could keep it and look back to see what we’ve been doing.

You can see where this is going.

We’re 52 Week Challenging the Suburban Farm.  We are going to try to post once a week.  That simple.  It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, but we have to do it.  Here are our guidelines:

1) No more “busy” talk.  (I know it’s a hot topic on the ‘net right now that busy = boring/stupid/self-centered, but we’re busy people.  However, even I’m tired of reading it on the blog.)

2) It doesn’t have to be a large project, but there should be some image of our life over the week.  Quick video, couple of stills, either is fine but it needs to be there.

3) Deadline to post is Friday afternoon at 4p.

That’s it.  Here we go...
